Etymology: German, lit. ‘choice, selection’, < aus out + lese picking, vintage.
(Medium-)sweet wine, usually white, made (esp. in Germany) from selected late-picked bunches of grapes (an official category of German wine); a wine of this category. Cf. beerenauslese n., Spätlese n., trockenbeerenauslese n.
