Etymology: < macro- comb. form + -mere comb. form. Compare micromere n. Compare French macromère (1905; 1873 in Larousse in different senses).
Embryology.
A relatively large blastomere, formed by unequal division in the fertilized ovum, and usually appearing at the vegetal pole.
