Etymology: < macro- comb. form + -meter comb. form2. Compare earlier micrometer n. N.E.D. (1904) gives the pronunciation as (mæ̆krǫ·mĭtəɹ) /mæˈkrɒmɪtə(r)/.
Obsolete.
An instrument consisting of a sextant fitted with two reflectors, used for measuring the distance of an object from the observer.
