Etymology: < scientific Latin Macropod- (in Macropodinae: M. R. O. Thomas 1888, in Catal. Marsupialia & Monotremata in Brit. Mus. 10, after Macropodidae (see macropodid n.): compare -inae suffix) + -ine suffix1.
Zoology.
Of, relating to, or characteristic of the subfamily Macropodinae (family Macropodidae) of larger kangaroos and wallabies. Cf. macropodid n. and adj.

1948 Bull. Amer. Mus. Nat. Hist. 91 247/2 Krefft (1875) pointed out the functional importance of two types of behavior of macropodine cheek teeth as represented in the kangaroos..and the wallabies.
1962 Austral. Jrnl. Sci. 24 369/1 A new name Prionotemnus has been proposed for a fossil wallaby... Unfortunately no comparisons were made between this form and other macropodine genera, so that its position remains problematical.
