Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French madérisation.
Etymology: < French madérisation (1902) < madériser (see madérisé adj.) + -ation -ation suffix.
A form of oxidation which gives white wine a brownish colour and caramelized flavour like that of Madeira, either as a result of storage conditions or from deliberate heating during production.
