Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Madreporaria.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Madreporaria, former taxonomic name ( H. Milne Edwards Hist. nat. des coralliaires (1860) III. 89; < Madrepora madrepore n. + -aria : see -ary suffix1) + -an suffix. Compare French madréporaires, plural noun (H. Milne Edwards 1860, as above).
