单词 magico-
释义

magico-comb. form

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly. Some degree of stress is always maintained on the first syllable. If the subsequent element is an existing word, it is likely to retain its original stress pattern, e.g. magico-religious Brit. /ˌmadʒᵻkə(ʊ)rᵻˈlɪdʒəs/, U.S. /ˌmædʒəkoʊrəˈlɪdʒəs/, /ˌmædʒəkoʊriˈlɪdʒəs/.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin magico-, magicus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin magico- (from 1625 in work titles, e.g. Antrum magico-medicum 1625–6, De occulta magico-magnetica morborum quorundam curatione naturali tractatus ?1638), combining form of classical Latin magicus magic adj. Compare French magico- in 20th-cent. formations as magico-physique, magico-religieux, magico-social.
Forming adjectives meaning ‘magical and ——’, ‘characterized by a combination of magic and ——’, as magico-erotic, magico-oriental, magico-political, magico-profane, magico-religious, etc. (rare in English contexts before 20th cent.)
