Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin magister ; magisterial adj., -ical suffix.
Etymology: Either < classical Latin magister master n.1, or < magister- (in magisterial adj.), + -ical suffix. N.E.D. (1904) indicates the stress as magiˈsterical.
Obsolete. rare.
Relating to or befitting a magistrate; magisterial.Quot. 1670 in N.E.D. in fact illustrates magisterial.
