Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French magnanerie.
Etymology: < French magnanerie (early 19th cent.; earlier magnagnerie (1763)) < magnan silkworm (further etymology uncertain: see Trésor de la langue française s.v.; compare malmignatte n.) + -erie -ery suffix, probably after Occitan manhanariá sericulture, (by metonymy) silkworm house. In form magnaniere perhaps after Occitan manhanièra silkworm house.
