Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: mansion n., -ry suffix.
Etymology: < mansion n. + -ry suffix.With the form mansonry in Macbeth, compare mansonarye in quot. 1447 at mansionary adj. 1; Pope's emendation (in his edition of 1728) to masonry is rejected by modern editors. (H. Staunton, in his edition of 1864, emends to form a compound love-mansionry.)
Chiefly poetic.
Dwelling places collectively. Also in extended use.In quot. 1930 alluding to Shakespeare (quot. a1616).
