Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by derivation. Or (ii) a borrowing from German, combined with an English element. Etymons: maleinic adj., German Maleinsäure , -oid suffix.
Etymology: < malein- (in either maleinic adj. or German Maleinsäure) + -oid suffix.
Chemistry.
Resembling maleic acid in having a cis configuration in geometrical (cis-trans) isomerism. Cf. fumaroid adj.
