Etymology: < mandr- (in mandrake n. or mandragora n.) + an arbitrary ending. Originally a brand name.
Pharmacology.
A hypnotic and sedative containing methaqualone and diphenhydramine hydrochloride; a tablet of this. Cf. mandy n.This and other methaqualone products are now no longer sold legally in most countries because of their potential for abuse.
