Föreningens i Stockholm Förhandl. 2 179) < mangano- mangano- comb. form¹ + -sit , probably after mineral names comprising a first element ending in -s + -ite suffix¹, as German Epidosit epidosite n., Globosit globosite n., Kyrosit kyrosite n.: -s- occurs by a similar process of analogy in Spanish morenosita morenosite n.

Manganese oxide, MnO, a cubic mineral occurring as translucent green octahedral crystals which blacken on exposure to air.
