Etymology: Probably < Middle French dementie dementie n., with elision of the first syllable. Compare Old French mente lie (13th cent.), mentir to lie (see mentery n.).
Scottish. Obsolete.
A lie, falsehood. Only in to give the mantie (to): to make a direct accusation of lying (against a person).
