Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French mamelière.
Etymology: < French mamelière (1352 in Middle French) < mamelle breast (see mamelle n.) + -ière , feminine of -ier -ier suffix. Apparently not recorded in medieval English sources.Post-classical Latin mamillaria (see quot. 1824) is cited in Du Cange, but only supported by a quotation from a vernacular source.
Armour. historical.
A mount on the breastplate to which the guard-chains for the helm, sword, etc., were attached.
