Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin mammeātus , -ed suffix1.
Etymology: < classical Latin mammeātus full-breasted ( < mamma mamma n. + -ātus -ate suffix2) + -ed suffix1 (compare -ated suffix). The origin of the -e- in mammeātus is uncertain: it is perhaps by analogy with adjectival formations on -e stems with -atus , such as alveātus alveate v.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
