Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; perhaps modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: mamilla n., -ated suffix.
Etymology: < mamilla n. + -ated suffix, perhaps after post-classical Latin mammillatus (see mammillate adj.).The spelling mammalated is probably after mamma n., and mammelated perhaps after French mamelé (1772).
Science.
1. Characterized by or covered with rounded protuberances or projections; (Geology, of a glaciated landform) worn into smooth convexities. Also (Mineralogy): = mammillary adj. 1b.
