(a) the margaric acid of Chevreul (see margaric adj. 1a); (b) (in quot. 1839) a fatty acid resulting from the saponification of castor oil.The formula given in quot. 1851 corresponds in modern notation to C11H22O2 (undecanoic acid), which does not occur in natural fats.
