单词 | mariput |
释义 | mariputn. rare. A mustelid animal (not identified) resembling the skunk. This word appears to be untraceable outside dictionaries. It was retained in Webster until 1900, but did not appear in the 1909 and subsequent editions. Webster (1828) identifies the mariput with the zoril, which is described as a South American animal, following the usage of Buffon. However, the 1900 edition of Webster, while retaining this identification of the two names, follows later usage in applying the name zoril to an African animal ( Ictonyx striatus); quot. 1917 reflects this confusion.
