Etymology: < Urdu maṣālā (also masālā), variant of maṣāliḥ ingredients, materials, condiments, spices, etc. < Persian maṣāliḥ < Arabic maṣāliḥ, plural of maṣlaḥa matter, affair, benefit, source of improvement < ṣalaḥa to be proper, to be serviceable or suitable.
