Etymology: Either < matricul- (in matriculate v.) + -ant suffix1, or directly < post-classical Latin matriculant-, matriculans, present participle of matriculare matriculate v. Compare earlier matriculator n.
A person who matriculates; a candidate for matriculation. Also (South African): a pupil studying for or who has passed the matriculation examination.
