1972 C. M. Wayman & K. Shimizu in Metal Sci. Jrnl. 6 175/2 The present authors comment on the shape memory effect with particular regard to the crystallography of martensitic transformations. Since the balance of experimental evidence indicates that it is the martensitic phase which exhibits a memory, the term ‘marmem’ is introduced as descriptive of the general behaviour.
