Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin Marōniānus ; Latin Marōn- , Marō , -ian suffix.
Etymology: Either < classical Latin Marōniānus Virgilian (one isolated attestation in Statius), or directly < classical Latin Marōn-, Marō (see Maronist n.1) + -ian suffix. Compare earlier Maronist n.1, Virgilian adj. 1.
