Etymology: < French marquisette (1907) < marquise marquise n. + -ette -ette suffix.
A type of machine-made net fabric produced on a leno loom or a Raschel lace machine.Originally of silk and used esp. in dressmaking; from the mid 20th cent. usually of cotton or synthetic fibre and used mainly for net curtains.
