Etymology: < German mein Herr < mein (see mine pron.) + Herr Herr n. Compare earlier mynheer n.The forms mynher , mynherr are probably influenced by mynheer n., which in early use is sometimes applied to Germans.
Usually in representations of German speech (occasionally humorous or ironic): a form of address to a man; sir. Also, preceding a surname as a title: Mr. In extended use: a German man.
