1. Meissner's plexus n. [described by Meissner 1857, in Zeitschr. f. Rationelle Medicin 8 364] a fine network of autonomic nerve fibres and ganglion cells located in the submucosal layer of the gastrointestinal tract; also called submucosal plexus.

Meissner 1852, in Nachrichten von der Königliche Gesellschaft der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen 2 Feb. 17] a type of encapsulated sensory nerve ending located in the papillae of the skin, esp. of the fingers and toes, and serving as a sensitive mechanoreceptor particularly important for tactile discrimination; also called tactile corpuscle.
