1927 tr. A. Fabris in Q. Cumulative Index Medicus July–Dec. 2 1318/1 (title) Cutaneous ‘mastocytoma’ from tar.
1942 Arch. Pathol. 33 673 The mast cells were morphologically identical with those in the cutaneous nodules and other organs. It is probably justifiable to term these nodules tumors in the broader sense or perhaps even in the more narrow interpretation of the word. The name ‘mastocytoma’ is therefore proposed for them.
1978 Nature 17 Aug. 697/2 This difference..was apparent after inoculation of a wide variety of tumour types (mastocytoma, melanoma, lymphoma, sarcoma, mammary adenocarcinoma).
1991 Merck Vet. Man. (ed. 7) i. 862 Cutaneous mast cell tumours. These (also called mastocytomas..) are the most frequently recognized malignant or potentially malignant neoplasms of dogs.
This is a new entry (OED Third Edition, March 2001; most recently modified version published online March 2022).
