单词 massenger
释义

massengern.

Forms: 1500s massenger.
Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: massing n.1, -er suffix1; mass n.1, losenger n.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Perhaps < massing n.1 + -er suffix1, or perhaps < mass n.1 + -enger (in losenger n.). Connection with singer n.1 seems unlikely, as such a variant of the latter word is not otherwise attested. A connection with post-classical Latin mansionarius mansionary n. also seems unlikely on grounds of form, unless perhaps altered after messenger n., although the motivation for this is unclear.
Obsolete.
Perhaps (derogatory): a member of a religious order.
