Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element; probably modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: Greek μῆλον , -plastic comb. form.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek μῆλον cheek (in ancient Greek in sense ‘apple’: see male n.2) + -plastic comb. form, probably after German Meloplastik (1838 or earlier). Compare later meloplasty n.
Surgery. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
= meloplasty n.In later editions of Dunglison's Med. Lexicon presented as an adjective, with ‘An epithet for’ prefixed to the definition. Cf. discussion at -plastic comb. form.
