Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: mechano- comb. form, -logy comb. form.
Etymology: < mechano- comb. form + -logy comb. form. In sense 2 perhaps after post-classical Latin mechanologia treatment of the mechanic arts (1630 in Alsted Encycl.). Compare French mécanologie (1932 in the passage translated in quot. 1959 at sense 2).
