Etymology: Origin uncertain; probably formed after the first syllable of screaming adj. for assonant effect (compare -y suffix6). In sense 2 probably partly punningly on the female forename Mimi , after Moaning Minnie n. 3. Compare earlier heebie-jeebies n. and later habdabs n.
