Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: melamine n., aniline n.
Etymology: < mel- (in melamine n.) + aniline n.The derivation < melano- comb. form suggested in N.E.D. (1906) s.v. is unlikely, given that the substance is colourless.
Chemistry. Now rare.
A colourless crystalline compound, C13H13N3, formed by the reaction of cyanogen chloride with aniline; 1,3-diphenylguanidine.
