Etymology: Either (i) < an unattested Anglo-Norman variant of Middle French moyenneur mediator (c1330; 1190 in Old French as moieneor ; compare Old French meenier , meeneur (both c1220), menneur (1265); < Old French moien , meien (see mean adj.2) + -eor -er suffix1), or (ii) < mean n.3 + -er suffix1, or (iii) < mean v.3 (although this is only attested later) + -er suffix1.Apparently attested earlier as a surname: Ricardus le Mener (1210–12), Alano Menur (1301).
Obsolete.
