Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French mélitose.
Etymology: < French mélitose (P. E. M. Berthelot 1856, in Ann. de chim. et de physique 46 66) < ancient Greek μελιτ- , μέλι honey (in Hellenistic Greek also ‘sweet gum, manna’; see mell n.2) + French -ose -ose suffix2.
Chemistry. Now rare.
