Etymology: < classical Latin membrānula fine membrane < membrāna membrane n. + -ula -ula suffix. N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (membrēi·niŭlă) /mɛmˈbreɪnjʊlə/.
Biology. Obsolete.
Any of various small membranes or membranous structures, esp. in mosses.
