Etymology: < me pron.1 (compare sense 2a at that entry) + seem v.2, originally as a simple syntactic collocation (see seem v.2 8a), in later use apprehended as a single word, probably by analogy with methinks v.Rarely written as one word before the 18th cent.
Now archaic.
