Etymology: < post-classical Latin meteoroscopica (1587 in the passage translated in quot. 1943; a1494 as meteoroscopice ) and its etymon Byzantine Greek μετεωροσκοπική (5th cent. in Proclus (see quot. 1788), short for μετεωροσκοπικὴ τέχνη art of meteoroscopics), use as noun of feminine singular of Hellenistic Greek μετεωροσκοπικός relating to the observation of celestial objects < ancient Greek μετεωρο- meteoro- comb. form + -σκοπικός -scopic comb. form (compare -ic suffix 2).
