Etymology: < Anglo-Norman and Middle French menable, meisnable tractable, easily led (1198 in Old French; French menable , now rare or obsolete; also in Anglo-Norman in forms mainable , mesnable ) < mener to lead, direct (10th cent. in Old French; < classical Latin mināre to drive animals, variant of minārī to threaten: see minant adj.) + -able -able suffix. Compare amenable adj.
Obsolete.
