Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Partly formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: mesocephalon n., -ic suffix; meso- comb. form, cephalic adj.
Etymology: In sense 1 < mesocephalon n. + -ic suffix. In sense 2 < meso- comb. form + cephalic adj.; compare Mesocephali n. N.E.D. (1906) gives only the pronunciation (me:sosĭfæ·lik) /ˌmɛsəʊsɪˈfælɪk/.
