Etymology: < ancient Greek μητρ-, μήτηρ mother n.1 + -onymy comb. form. N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (mitrǫ·nimi) /miːˈtrɒnɪmɪ/.
Sociology. Obsolete.
= matriliny n.; spec. the practice or system of using metronymics.
