Etymology: < classical Latin mentīgō an eruption or scab on the mouth of sheep (only attested in Columella) < mentum chin (see mentum n.) + -īgō , suffix forming names of diseases, after impetīgō impetigo n. Sense 2 is perhaps after mentagra n.

Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
