Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek μῆον.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek μῆον, of uncertain origin, perhaps related to ancient Greek μείων less (see meio- comb. form). Compare Middle French, French méon (1544), and earlier meu n.Also in 16th cent. in form meion after the Hellenistic Greek variant form μεῖον.
Obsolete.
The plant spignel, Meum athamanticum (family Apiaceae ( Umbelliferae)) ; (also) the root of this plant. Cf. meu n., meum n.1
