Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element; modelled on a Greek lexical item. Etymons: Greek μή , ontic adj.
Etymology: < ancient Greek μή not + ontic adj., after ancient Greek μὴ ὄν that which is not, nothingness, void (see meonic adj.). Compare earlier meonic adj.
Philosophy.
= meonic adj. Also: indicating that aspect of artistic creativity which seeks to depict what has not been seen or experienced in reality (contrasted with mimetic).
