Etymology: < Middle French, French mère goutte (c1393; 1369 as mere goute ) < post-classical Latin mera gutta (13th cent.) < mera , feminine of merus mere adj.2 + gutta drop (see gutta n.1).
Obsolete.
Juice or oil which runs from a wine press, olive press, etc., before pressure is applied; (also) wine made from grape juice which has been collected in this way.
