Etymology: < German Merogon (S. Hörstadius 1932, in Naturwiss. 20 363/2) < mero- mero- comb. form¹ + ancient Greek γόνος offspring (see gono- comb. form), after French mérogonie merogony n.

A fragment of an ovum, or an enucleated ovum, that undergoes merogony (merogony n. 1).
