Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Microcephalie.
Etymology: < German Microcephalie (later Mikrocephalie ; J. F. Meckel Handb. der Pathol. Anat. (1812) I. 302) < micro- micro- comb. form + -cephalie (see -cephaly comb. form). Compare French microcéphalie (1855 in Littré-Robin). Compare earlier microcephalia n. and microcephalism n. N.E.D. (1906) gives only the pronunciation (məikrose·făli) /maɪkrəʊˈsɛfəlɪ/.
