(b) Any member of the genus Micrococcus, originally comprising all spherical bacteria, now comprising some nine species of Gram-positive spherical bacteria that form part of the normal bacterial flora of the skin of warm-blooded animals, and occasionally act as opportunistic pathogens; (in form Micrococcus) the genus itself.
