Etymology: < micro- comb. form + -encephaly comb. form, as alteration of micrencephalia n. Compare earlier microencephalic adj., microencephalous adj. N.E.D. (1906) records only the pronunciation (məikrense·făli) /maɪkrɛnˈsɛfəlɪ/.
