Brit. /ˈmʌɪtɪnᵻs/, U.S. /ˈmaɪdinᵻs/

Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: mighty adj., -ness suffix.
Etymology: < mighty adj. + -ness suffix. Compare earlier unmightiness n.It is unclear whether the Older Scots form mychttnes shows a variant of the present word with loss of the unstressed second syllable, or an independent formation < might adj. + -ness suffix.
