One of the six systems of orthodox Hindu philosophy, which was founded by Jaimini and bases itself on the interpretation of Vedic ritual and text.Called more fully the Pūrvamimamsa (‘earlier’ or ‘prior’ Mimamsa). Mimamsa also occurs in the name of a closely-related school, the Uttara, or ‘later, subsequent’ mimamsa, often called Vedānta (see Vedanta n.), which deals with the nature of Brahman.
